Cricketer Azeem Rafiq praised the new club president on Monday for his courage in denouncing Yorkshi’s racism and harassment.
The county has been widely criticized for its handling of the scandal and has already lost sponsors and the right to host international matches in England in Headlingley.
“Azeem is a whistleblower and to be praised as such, he should never endure this,” said New York President Kamlesh Patel.

Patel’s reference to “joke” came after Rafiq’s allegations in the county report were used after that term.
It was reported that a teammate had repeatedly used a derogatory address to Rafiq in reference to his Pakistani heritage, but the allegation was not accepted as it was in the context of friendly relations between the players.
“What I’ve seen so far feels uncomfortable,” Patel said of the investigation. It makes me feel like the process didn’t end well enough. “
Rafiq, a former England Under-19 captain, said in interviews last year that he felt like an “outsider” as a Muslim since 2008 in Yorkshire and was close to taking his own life.
Yorkshir has settled a labor court case with Rafiq, Patel said.
“There has been absolutely no restriction on what Azeem can or cannot say about his experiences,” Patel said. “The repair does not involve a disclosure agreement.”
Patel said he also commissioned a specialized independent review of regional processes and procedures on diversity and inclusion.
He said he had spoken to the England and Wales Cricket Commission about the resumption of international cricket at his stadium, but that Yorkshir would have to “deal with the reasons” that led to the suspension.
Patel said he would publish the report to those with a “legal interest,” rather than just publishing it.
