It’s Las Vegas fight week again and maybe even if it’s not a fight that many had planned to see, it’s the one that demands your attention. Former eight-time champion Manny Pacquiao will walk into the ring for the first time in two years as Yordenis Ugas takes on the WBA welterweight title at Fox PPV’s main PBC event. Pacquiao initially intended to take on joint champion Errol Spence Jr., but Spence had a torn retina in training and was forced to retire. It is noteworthy that Ugas also injured the initial opponent of the card and forced him to retire, as this new main event was almost focused.

Pacquiao hasn’t fought since winning in July 2019 against Keith Thurman, where he won the WBA crown. After winning at least eight weightlifting championships, he is considered the greatest of all time in the sport.

Ugas is not moving forward, however. The Cuban has never stopped in the ring and has suffered only one loss since 2015 while taking on the best welterweight in the world. In 2019 Shawn Porter was challenged to win the WBC title and threw a split decision. He won the WBA belt empty-handed, however, with a split decision to beat Abel Ramos in September 2020.

The card also shows another fun welterweight when Robert Guerrero plays alongside Victor Ortiz. Guerrero (36-6, 20 KOs) took a short retirement in 2017, following his third loss in a row and his fifth in the last seven. He returned in December 2018, however, and has scored three straight victories. It is noteworthy that Guerrero has not fought since September 2019. Ortiz (32-6, 25 KOs), meanwhile, has not fought since he drew a majority against Devon Alexander in February 2018, accused of sexual assault. These charges were eventually suspended in December 2020 as Ortiz wants to return to active competition.

In addition, Mark Magsayo, a 26-year-old undefeated prospect from the Philippines, has taken on former champion Julio Ceja in the featherweight title qualifiers. Magsayo carries a ton of weight for this weight class in 15 eliminations in 22 professional fights. He has rarely fought in the state, especially when he was at home in his native Philippines, but he has made quite an impression on his travels to America. Magsayo managed to beat Pablo Cruz in the TKO in April to win this shot against Ceja, who has fallen without a win since 2017.
