South African referee Paleker of Allahudien is making a great debut in the test in the second match against India at the Johannesburg Wanderers, but very few would know that his family originated in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.

Palekers are from the village of Shiv in Khed tehsil in Ratnagiri district.

Durvesh Paleker told PTI on Wednesday: “I am also a paleker. He has his roots in our Shiv village. His father migrated to South Africa in search of work and later settled there. He was born in Allahudi, South Africa, but his homeland is Shiv, which is located in Khed tehsil. ”

“The whole town, gram panchayat (the local governing body) is proud of it, because our name and that of the people have gone internationally. We are very happy,” Durvesh added.
