Australian captain Pat Cummins has told his players to be themselves instead of going to the sledge, “because it could have been done that way in the past”.
Since the 2018 ball handling scandal, Australian cricket culture has undergone a serious overhaul for its cost-winning approach. Not a single adverse event has been seen in the Ashes series, and Cummins has credited his teammates and not just his leadership style.
Cummins, the first fast-paced Australian player to lead a test team, said his leadership approach is similar to that of Eoin Morgan of England.

“I look at different leaders and someone like Eoin Morgan. I like his approach to captaincy and how he brings the team together. I’ve been working with Eoin for the last two years at IPL and we have very similar perspectives on life, ”Cummins said. Sydney Morning Herald.
“You have to be mindful. It was obvious a couple of years ago that the world wanted all cricket teams, especially the Aussie cricket team, to slow down a bit. I continue to encourage all of our players to be themselves. They don’t have to try to move or sled anyone, because in the past they could have done that. Be yourself. ”

Cummins said he was quite proud of the team’s behavior.
“Without a doubt, the first Tests have been quite smooth and (lenea) it’s worth looking at … You are guided by your actions in this space. If I have to pull someone (for the sleigh) I will, but here they are all adults.
“They have heard loud and clear from outside what is expected of us and the Australian cricket fans. I’m not going to take all the credit, the guys have been wonderful.
Cummins said the Test format itself encourages players to be the best in every aspect. “For all the growing cricketers in Australia, it’s their preferred format. Test cricket means something in Australia. That’s where history is made,” he said.
“Ashes series 12 months later, you meet people on the street and they are already saying that the Ashes can’t wait. It brings us all together and allows us to seal our heritage at stake. ”
And he’s enjoying the challenge of being the Australian Test skipper and it doesn’t matter if the bowlers stay on the sidelines.
“I’ve always thought that bowlers can be captains. I’m not sure if this is the beginning of a trend, but why not? The experience of being a bowler is very valuable when I try to talk to other bowlers on the field, make bowling changes, and set up pitches. I feel like I can draw a lot from my experiences. There is no reason why there should be no more bowling captains in the future. “
