‘Avenue 5’ is fun but needs more variety

[ad_1]

HBO series 5th Avenue is a science fiction comedy about a sea cruise ship that makes its way to Saturn. Humorous writer Tom Gerencer he was impressed by the clever dialogue of the show.

“There were a lot of fun lines 5th Avenue that I couldn’t laugh, ”Gerencer says in section 463 Guide to the Geek Galaxy podcast. “My hat is behind the comedy comedy behind great scripts.”

5th Avenue yes Armando Iannucci, creator Veep. Fantasy author Erin Lindsey he had fun 5th Avenueit’s absurd absurdity, but he prefers humor Veep, which operates on many different levels. “For me it doesn’t matter how much I like the taste, I want more than one flavor and I felt like almost all the jokes were the same flavor,” he says.

Guide to the Geek Galaxy host David Barr Kirtley agrees 5th Avenue would benefit from a variety of perspectives. “I feel like the character should be normal and honest and identify with that,” he says. “So there can be a contrast between nonsense and nonsense. I think everything in that is absurd; all the characters are absurd, all the scenes are absurd and everything about the ship is absurd.”

But a science fiction editor John Joseph Adams loves 5th Avenueit’s a bad mood, and from now on he’s eager to see where the show goes.

Office and Parks and Rec both ended up being two of my favorite comedies of all time, but the first few seasons weren’t good, ”he says.“ I think the first season 5th Avenue it is much better than one of these. So if so 5th Avenue it has an all-season growth from season 1 to season 2, comparable to what one of those shows did (which was directed by teams of equal talent, so it’s fair to expect them to be able to make those improvements) I think that can be amazing. ”

Erin Lindsey accents:

“I have something about accents. I notice a lot, I make accents, I’m very comfortable with it. One of the things that always amazed me Hugh Laurie it is, however, in its billionth season House, you almost never ever doubted that he was an American. His American accent is amazing. And so in these first couple of episodes, you’re playing the American captain running, and my first question was, ‘Why?’ And my second question is, ‘Why is it so bad? Has it lost its flavor? ‘So he sold it outright. He did a great job doing a British accent that was almost but not quite perfect. And it just so happens that this is happening. Which I loved. I absolutely loved that. “

On the plot of David Barr Kirtley:

“I feel like they’re going to have to have a story in season 2, and there’s no story in season 1. You’re going to watch the synopsis of episode 1, and it’s like, ‘I’ve never seen such a short episode.’ synopsis. ‘I think there must be some sort of mystery on the ship, something you’re wondering what’s going to happen. Right now the structure reminds me Gilligan’s Island, when there is a hope that they will return to each section sooner than you think, and then something goes wrong, and then it will be longer than you thought, and again and again it is something like that. “.

Tom Gerencer on boats:

“I used to play video games, and I loved it, and there’s this little boy next to me, and he’s playing with a suit with video games, and these two kids are running from the porch, one behind the other, and one of them is hitting the little kid. , and he barely touches it. until nothing is left! ‘He shouted in the face of this 8-year-old boy. It was time for me to open my eyes. “Who am I on this boat with?”

Tom Gerencer Starship Titanic novel:

“I started on Google, and I found a copy of it in some dark online bookstores Robert Sheckley, and like a fool, I sent an e-mail to the owner of the bookstore and said, ‘Hey, if it’s true that’s a very rare book. Can I buy it? ‘He disappeared from the site that day, and the guy didn’t respond to my email. I said, “Hey, I was checking again,” and he didn’t answer me again. … It was ironic for me Titanic they said something that didn’t sink, and it sank, and then Douglas Adams it was horrible that he made this game, because Douglas Adams, and then that was gone, and both books were gone, too. “
