emotional impact of quarantine it’s real and the consequences of being saved for a month have made us want to reconnect nature. That’s probably why so many of us are looking for and creating beauty even at home right now. And while the last few blocks make it harder for us to get out, there’s an easy way to bring in the outside: decorative branches.
If there really is a person he catapulted this trend into popular culture is a design phenomenon, Athenian cauldron of EyeSwoon. The multi-creative dash has become famous for its decorative branches, cutting large-scale stems outside its home and putting them in vintage bowls (another trend we’re seeing all over Instagram, which was encouraged by Calderone!).
“I like to get outdoors and I always want to bring something seasonal and natural into my home,” Athena explains. “I also love the sculptural quality and the slightly wild and untidy nature of the branches in a refined space. I love that they offer verticality. ” We couldn’t agree more.
So who better to ask for advice on the style of decorating branches in vases at home than Calderone himself. Read her tips on what to consider when cutting, arranging, and designing your own.
Three things to keep in mind before Cutting fresh branches
Shake them trying to remove jewelry. Of course, you have to accept the opportunity.
Use sharp cutters. It seems simple enough but secateurs or investing gardening shears it is essential to cut branches on this scale. Kitchen scissors will not cut.
Make sure the horn is not poisonous, especially for animals. That said, my husband exploded in a hive all over his body and a few weeks later we found out that it was from our Sumac horns!
Choose your branch …
It can be anything, really, but look for movement and sculptural branches. Less often is more. Also, keep in mind that the tree is alive, so just take what you need.
Add H20 and then let it dry …
At first I always add water, but I usually let it dry to see if it dries to see if they offer more beauty or some other kind.
Select your ship
Find something big and heavy to support your weight. If you love the look of a vintage bowl, Etsy has a lot to offer, but there are also cheap options on the net.
And don’t forget …
Break the bottom of the branch with a hammer. Apparently, the branch allows it to absorb more water and prolong life.
