Following the announcement by Facebook that the parent company would change the brand in the changeover to Metavers, many projects have begun to embark on similar initiatives in the virtual space, from buying property to testing the limitations of what this universe has to offer.

Downtown Santa Monica, west of Los Angeles, was one of the first real-world sites where users had access to metaverse through the FlickPlay app. Marked as a meta-verse tool, walking around the neighborhood seems like a limited augmented reality experience, rather than a virtual one, where people collect digital tokens in the style of Pokémon GO.
