Florida County collapsed in search of rescue and rescue US and Canadian News

The remaining parts of the collapsed Florida apartment block were damaged as rescuers were being prepared to continue searching for the victims.

Demolition crews dropped explosives to blow up the rest of the partially collapsed apartment building in South Florida, confirming that 24 people were killed and 121 remain missing.

Videos made late Sunday showed that 12-story Champlain Towers in South Surfside, on the outskirts of Miami, were being demolished – most of the building collapsed in the first hours of June 24 and residents were asleep for 10 days.

There have been search and rescue efforts for the missing extended, but Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said rescuers would return immediately as soon as all the survivors buried under the rubble received “all the light”.

“We are standing. We’re ready to go in, no matter what time of night, ”Levine Cava said at a news conference Sunday night.

No one has been rescued alive since the first hours after the June 24 crash.

Rescuers hope the demolition will for the first time provide access to sections of the garage area that are the focus of interest, said Raide Jadallah, an assistant to Miami-Dade Fire Chief. This can provide a clearer picture of the waste gaps that could have survived.

Officials surrounded the area before demolishing the neighbors and warned others to stay inside the house and close other openings that could allow windows, doors and dust to enter.

After seeing that the decision to demolish the housing building was in danger of collapsing the damaged structure, it put the lower crews at risk and prevented them from operating in certain places. Parts of the rest of the building were changed on Thursday, causing a 15-hour work suspension.

As of Sunday afternoon, the storm was on the Cuban coast with a wind speed of 60 kilometers per hour (95km / h). Recent forecasts have shifted the storm westward, especially saving south Florida, but meteorologist at National Hurricane Center Robert Molleda said the area could still have consequences.

“We especially expect the strength of tropical storms,” Molleda said, referring to gusts above 40 mph (64km / h).

Instead of the usual fireworks and flag-waving festivities, the surrounding beach communities have organized more modest events for July 4th. Miami Beach canceled Independence Day celebrations.

Investigators have not determined what caused the 40-year-old complex to collapse on June 24. A 2018 engineering report found structural deficiencies that are now the focus of inquiries.
