“I call on the authorities to immediately begin an in-depth and transparent investigation into the incident so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice quickly,” Griffiths said.
“I also call on the Armed Forces of Myanmar and all the armed groups in Myanmar to take all measures to protect civilians from harm,” he added.
The U.S. embassy in Myanmar said on Sunday it was shocked that “at least 35 civilians have been killed in barbaric attacks in the state of Kayah, including women and children.”
“We will continue to demand accountability from the perpetrators of the ongoing violence against the Burmese people,” he said in a statement posted on social media.

Constant confusion

PDF groups have surprised the military with their effectiveness, analysts say as the military struggles to break resistance to its command.
