England will play two more Twenty20 games in Pakistan next year as compensation for the cancellation of a short tour of the country scheduled for last month.

“We are excited to announce that we will be playing two extra white balls on our (next year) tour of Pakistan,” said Tom Harrison, director general of the England and Wales Cricket Committee, after meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Commission. Lahoren, Tuesday.

The seven-match T20 series between Pakistan and England is expected to be played ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia next October, after which England will return in November-December for the first test series in Pakistan since 2005.

“I don’t think there is a cricketer in England who doesn’t want to test his skills against the huge talent in this country (Pakistan) under conditions that they know best,” Harrison said.

The relationship between the boards deteriorated when England withdrew from their scheduled T20 tour in September, citing the players ’health reasons. The decision was highly controversial, especially since Pakistan was the first group to go to England in a pandemic last year and spent months in a bubble.

Harrison made a visit to Pakistan when the PCB announced that he would be touring Australia in March-April and arrived one day after 24 years. Harrison made a brief trip to Pakistan next week on his way to a meeting of ICC CEOs in the United Arab Emirates.

PCB President Rameez Raja said New Zealand and England were “completely relieved” by the decisions to end the tour in September with growing frustration with Harrison’s visit.

“It’s so important to have the ECB and the PCB on the same page, and we’ve discussed a lot of issues,” Raja said. “From now on, (we are very excited) because we need the support of England as you remember and you know that we have made a great effort to ensure that the visiting team is comfortable in Pakistan.”

England and Pakistan are in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup this week, and if New Zealand and Australia win, it could be measured in the final in Dubai on Sunday.

“That will be Pakistan’s win, of course,” Raja said.
