Gareth Southgate has been chasing England’s “missing piece” in the World Cup this year

England coach Gareth Southgate has tackled the nation’s “missing piece” aiming for 2022 World Cup fame.

England have been denied their first trophy since losing their 2020 Euro Cup final to Italy in July 1966.

That devastating defeat at Wembley Stadium was a three-year loss to England in the 2018 World Cup finals against Croatia.

But Southgate’s men are back in search of silver after easily qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

England will travel to Qatar as one of the favorites and Southgat knows that winning the trophy would end his impressive reign.

“We went to Russia in 2018 without winning a playoff game for 10 years, and that was our first goal,” Southgat said. Sky News.

“Now we’re in a place where we’ve been in a final, we’ve broken a lot of historical records and created moments in our history, so the missing piece is a trophy and that’s incredibly difficult, but I think we can do that.

“We know that there are other teams, there are two teams (Italy and Portugal) that have reached a play-off that can win this title, so the level is very high and it is quite evenly matched between the first teams.

“Even though we feel like we have good players, we know other teams have good players too … we know it’s a high level, but we feel like we’re on that team.”

Although Southgate was criticized in the 2020 Euro Cup final for his prudent tactics and substitutions, he is widely admired for his transformation into England, after decades of poor performance.

At the time, he described the last failure as a rip-off, but now he looks at the Eurocup more lovingly.

“I think it’s been a remarkable year,” he said. “This year it will always be in our minds to be in a final and not to be overtaken, but if I can see it logically, we have been in the last two qualifying campaigns as a team. -European goalscorers.

“I think in the last 12 months or so we’ve got the best defensive record in the world.

“They faced the pressure of being at home in a big tournament, they managed to qualify for the World Cup, which we have seen in other high-level nations, which is not the case.
