Justin Langer may request an extension of his contract with Cricket Australia

Australian coach Justin Langer said on Thursday he would ask for a four-year contract extension, ending in June 2022, saying he “loves his job”.

Langer has been criticized by players for his coaching methods, but now he has the Twenty20 World Cup on his CV and is close to adding the coveted victory for the Ashes.

Australia is leading 2-0 in the home series against England.

The 51-year-old former Test opener stressed that his thinking process has not changed.

“I’ve never thought differently, to be honest. I’ve been consistent with what I’ve said over the last four years. I love my job,” Langer said. Sydney Morning Herald.

“The boys are playing well. It’s definitely a great team to participate in. So from my point of view nothing has changed.”

Steve Waugh is a former and highly respected Australian cricket skipper who advocates the division of coaching duties.

“Langer reaffirmed that he wanted to remain in charge of the Test team and limited teams for the long term, as there has been controversy that the senior coach of the white-and-red team should be split,” the report says.

“Langer’s senior assistant Andrew McDonald would be the perfect white-ball coach if Langer stayed and the roles were handed out.

Langeri was given the job of renewing the team’s culture and regaining the respect of the Australian public after the 2018 ball handling scandal.
