SL vs WI, Test 2: West Indies 69-1 on the 2nd day after Sri Lanka was eliminated by 204

The West Indies consistently started to go 69-1, after Sri Lanka threw a 204 ball, before the rains forced the second day of the second round to end early on Tuesday.

Veerasammy Permaul and Jomel Warrican left arm spinners combined in nine Sri Lankan wickets for the best performance of their career.

When the game was canceled, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite was on the 22nd and Nkhrumah Bonner on the 1st. The tourist made 135 runs to Sri Lanka with nine wickets in his hand.

Permaul, in his first test in more than five years, won 5-35 to record his first five bouts. Warrican took a 4-50 lead, also the best of his career.

The pair made sure they had a good start to Sri Lanka, and had an initial partnership of 106 runs. The last nine wickets made 98 runs.

Sri Lanka started again with a 113-1 result, and Pathum Nissanka and Oshada Fernando added a total of 26 more runs before Permaul hit the seventh inning of the day. Fernando tried to hit a shot close to the body and was caught by Joshua da Silva from behind for the 18th.

Permaul took two wickets in a single, catching Nissanka for LBW 73 which lasted 148 deliveries and had six and five limits to end an inning. Two deliveries later, Dhananjaya de Silva caught up with him on the 2nd.

Charith Asalanka, playing her first test, scored 10 before becoming Permaul’s next wicket, trapped by Bonner.

Angelo Mathews left the field with an injury when he was 12th, but came back in the fall of the eighth wicket, even though he was still unable to run. He hit two sixes and a boundary before Warrican picked up a 29-pointer and finished the first inning in Sri Lanka.

The only wicket in the West Indies was taken by Sri Lanka’s left-wing owner, Praveen Jayawickrama, who caught Jermaine Blackwood for 44. He faced 99 players and hit five limits and reviewed the decision without success.

Rain is taking a big toll on the match, losing two sessions on the first day and overcoming one session on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka won the first test by running 187 in the same place and the West Indies have to win the second to draw the series.
