The new variant of coronavirus is infecting millions around the world, and has led to the re-establishment of restrictions.

The global rise in new COVID-19 cases associated with the Omicron variant is forcing some nations to reintroduce drastic blockade measures before the holiday season.

The Netherlands was the first European country to impose a national blockade on Sunday. Others are continuing to try to slow down Omicron’s deployment.

France, Austria, Cyprus and Germany have tightened travel restrictions, with some canceling Christmas and New Year celebrations.

And Ireland, for example, is limiting the number of people allowed in bars and restaurants.

But is it enough?
