GoBusiness was launched in October 2019 as GoBusiness Licensing to simplify licensing applications for the Singapore food service sector.
To date, it has benefited more than 2,800 F&B business owners and an average of around 100 F&B businesses per month have used GoBusiness Licensing.
Driven by the success of this F&B initiative, the team was encouraged to continue to improve the platform to provide better support to all Singapore businesses; not limited to the F&B sector.
In 2020, the platform was expanded to include GoBusiness Government Assistance in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which helps companies navigate government support schemes.
GoBusiness is part of the Smart Nation overview and reflects the government’s commitment to promoting a business-friendly environment in Singapore.
There are three promises that GoBusiness wants to achieve: to help companies find the information they need in a simpler and faster way, to help connect that information and service as a guided tour, to know what steps to take and what to do. after each step, and finally proactively inform and update companies with the latest news and information.
Get support at every step of your business journey
The key idea is to help entrepreneurs at every stage of their business journey: start a business, run a business, grow a business and get out of business.
When starting a business, especially for first-time entrants, they often don’t realize beyond the registration process that often more things need to be done right away, such as trademark registration, opening a Corppass account, and licensing applications.
And for those who run a physical store, they may have to pay rent even before they open the store because they know they need to go through some regulatory processes before starting business activities.
That’s why GoBusiness wants to help companies not only speed up the registration process, but also provide them with the essential information and tools to get started.
When businesses start operating, there are regulatory requirements that must be met for financial records, tax reports, workforce management, training, among others.
It’s an exciting, but also questionable, part about growing, expanding, and transforming.
GoBusiness wants to reduce friction with these types of regulatory requirements and increase the accessibility of government support.
Even in some unfortunate cases where some companies do not take the flight, it wants to make it easier for companies to terminate their activities and ease business obligations, such as tax payroll and termination.
Access to more than 300 intergovernmental services on a single platform
MTI and SNDGG announced today (November 17) that GoBusiness will be enhanced to create a more unified business experience with features to help entrepreneurs want to start their own businesses, and a guide to applying for licenses and grants for existing business owners.
Companies will have the advantage of a custom panel that will help users throughout their business trip. With the dashboard, companies will have easy and integrated access to more than 300 intergovernmental services.
It allows them to register new businesses, apply for licenses, and receive recommendations on appropriate government support schemes.
From January 2022, users will be able to access the dashboard by logging in via Singpass and selecting their company’s unique entity number (UEN) or business number.

Once logged in, they will see the information that is most important to them and their corporate profile and some of the transactions they have made with various government agencies.
At a glance, they can see what are the key activities that need to be taken immediately, or what are the activities that are still underway.
Users can access a personalized step-by-step guide on how to register for their business, as well as embedding their business in the same transaction.
Upon completion of the business registration, the user will receive suggestions on what to do, as well as apply for the appropriate licenses and grants.
Companies can access and apply for more than 200 licenses — in different sectors — from different government agencies through the whiteboard without having to visit separate portals. In the same space, companies can change, renew, or revoke existing licenses.
Through the dashboard, companies can also monitor the status of the license application and be asked if they need any action.
The dashboard is also integrated with a notification system so companies don’t miss another opportunity or term.
Another exciting part of the whiteboard is the recommendations feature, which offers a range of tailor-made recommendations, such as grant suggestions.
In interviews with companies, as part of the research process, the group found that companies are often unaware of an existing government scheme, and often believed that they were not entitled to a particular scheme, so they did not use it in the end.
Therefore, GoBusiness hopes to address this issue through its recommendation engines.
Get relevant e-Advisors recommendations
In addition to the dashboard, users can access various electronic advisors in GoBusiness without logging in. It’s something that companies can already start using.
E-Consultants will make important recommendations to new or future users about the structure of the business, starting a business, verifying the use of the premises, and organizing events.

By answering a few simple questions, new business owners can get information that will help them decide which business structure best suits their needs.
New businesses may check that their preferred business name or proposed business name is available as a username on social media channels.
They may also be familiar with the Singapore Standard Industrial Classification Code for their business activities, as well as recommendations on the steps to register their business in Singapore.
In addition, companies can conveniently check premises use and land use changes with the e-Adviser. The company directs them to the appropriate government agency to gain approval for the use of commercial space.
They may also know that approval of the change of use is required by entering the addresses of the properties listed by the company and answering a few simple questions.
Meanwhile, companies looking to host events in Singapore can also use the e-Adviser to navigate the regulatory landscape.
By answering a few simple questions, companies can receive a license and a set of recommendations for Safe Management Measures for their event.
These short questionnaires are necessary to create recommendations for electronic consultants, and some areas such as corporate profile will be pre-filled so that users do not have to waste time filling out their data multiple times.
The local business community plays a key role in shaping GoBusiness
These improvements to GoBusiness were developed in close collaboration with the Singapore business community.
More than 500 business users from many sectors, including food services, e-commerce, retail and events, were consulted over the past two years through independent research, user testing and analysis.
Facilitating regular business feedback, the MTI-dependent Pro-Enterprise Panel has been instrumental in ensuring that the new features introduced in GoBusiness are developed as needed by companies.
GoBusiness will continue to improve its website and gradually expand its new features. As part of the co-creation process, companies are also welcome to suggest a feature they would like to see in the future panel.
