How to prioritize your life and make time for what really matters – Wired PR Lifestyle Story

For the last four years, my therapist and in December I took advantage of the last session of the year to reclaim some great victories and put on new ones intentions and priorities for the coming year. It is not so much a list of resolutions as a commitment mantra. I consider the paths I want to feel so when I’m making decisions I’m very clear about why behind them. Last night was the last session of our year, and I was impressed to keep the priorities I set and the mantras we created focused on moving forward. I am always encouraged to hear what others are saying, so in the spirit of sharing, here are some of the priorities I have set that can help you figure out how to prioritize your life.

Me, First

A moment of celebration, 2021 was a great victory for me. For the first time in a long time, I regained my calendar and energy, and this year I put myself at the top of the list. I was so upset for everyone from work to dinner and hanging out that I often felt angry, tired and always behind me. Now I control my schedule and most importantly, I control my mental and physical health.

Here’s how to put one together for use with your breakout plan. When I travel, I lock my calendar two days earlier and two days later to rest and take essential work and homework. If I’m doing a big presentation or moderating a panel, I’m blocking my calendar from resting for a whole week, moving my body, and fully preparing. Listen, athletes don’t have a problem figuring out what to do best, and that’s how I approach my performance at work, in friendship, and so on.

I’m continuing with this because it sets me up to be fully present with my friends, family, and work.

Honest and tougher conversations

I grew up with a peace of mind that was afraid of great feelings, “rocking the boat” or making others uncomfortable. It helped me get closer to being a therapist hard conversations more often. Over the last year, I’ve been immersed in strength and 100% of those conversations have been worth it, and I’ve always saved time by being straightforward and honest. The truth is that the more content I have, the easier it is for me, and it’s essential for me if I really want to live in alignment and flourish and strengthen my relationships. If I have any advice from my experience, just get out of your mind to make up the scenarios and just talk. And remember, you are not responsible for the feelings of others, so please do not take that. Yes, be kind in your honesty, and be responsible for yourself, but the emotions of others are not something to absorb in your problem.

Movement

I feel like this is always on my mind, but my perspective is different. I know my body and car well enough to know that I feel 100% better when I move. In the past, the movements made you sweat a lot, go hard, and even on rest days, do the most. All the things that are impossible for me to sustain. What I want, and what I prioritize is a 30-minute movement every day. Whether it’s a light walk, taking the stairs by the elevator a few times, walking to the store, swimming, biking, yoga, stretching, or a little more sweaty, the idea is that I’m doing something. Not for the purpose of losing weight, but to live an active life and feel good.

Consumption of the planet

In an effort to be more pleasant with the planet and not help wasting it, I’m prioritizing how I accept branded gifts and how much I consume. A look at me wardrobe and I’m a little bit away from what I really need, dress, and pick up. There’s no shortage of clothes rental companies from Rent the Runway to Nuuly, not to mention my sister’s wardrobe. Ever realized that having more things takes more time? Do you spend more time cleaning, inventorying, or trying to find things like me? I’ve put a lot of effort into the kitchen, storage, and use of the water bottle, and this is next on my list.

Energy Limits

The older I get, the more I understand the types of things (and people) that give me energy and what they suck at. The whole line of my first piece of advice is, “Me, first,” which means I don’t have the ability to do or be around. people (willingly, however) to suck my energy, to be part of a project that doesn’t energize my class or illuminate me. Our energy is limited, and we need to save it for those who deserve it. Not sure what to say to someone who wants your time and doesn’t want to give it to you? Simply answer, “I’m not available, thank you for thinking of me.” We don’t have an explanation that we don’t want to owe anyone. I mentioned to my therapist that I was doing this, and I was ruthless with my schedule, and he helped me reformulate that. I’m not ruthless, I’m very careful and intentional about where and how I want to spend my time. I hope this rewording helps you too.

New year, new part-time location?

I really shouldn’t put a question mark on it because it’s something I think will happen. You know what they’re saying, because be careful what you put into the universe. So I’m putting it here and excited where it leads. My big plan is to live outside of Austin in the summer (June 1st to September 1st) and return to California and / or Colorado to be closer to the ocean and mountains. The flexibility of working remotely calls me out loud with my contempt for Texas summer and my love for the coast and the mountains, and I’m working hard to make this a reality. If you’re reading this and think you can help with rentals, spaces, etc., I’m listening.

After my therapist and I identified my priorities, she said, “How do you feel about December 2022 in our last session of the year?” My answer?

I want to feel nurtured and filled with the way I spent time, and how I took care of myself, my friends, my family, the community, and the environment.
