How does the timing of this book’s presentation relate to the state of the world?

When I look around, I see that the teachings in this book are more necessary than ever. Perhaps there is more anxiety, confusion and unrest in the world than ever before. Also, as people’s attention spans, and most of us pick up our information and search for answers on news and social media, I felt like this real treasure, buried in dense books and texts that are not part of the news cycle. It was going to go through all of them and I couldn’t let that happen.

Therefore, I have spent thousands of pages presenting the basics in a form that will be available and useful to you. I wanted to dig deeper into presenting the real gems of these teachings, which are not only useful, but really life-changing.

You will see that you embody the attributes that give you great power to make changes and create a happy, exciting, deeply fulfilling, and epic life. All you have to do is learn access these features, which you will learn in each chapter of this book.

Instead, it is built on capacity. And that energy can be used to perceive progress and new ideas, as well as to boost your vitality. We become shepherds with our energy, carefully pointing them in the right direction. The calmer we become, the less disturbed we become about what is going on outside of ourselves — positive or negative — and our over-active assets begin to settle.

First, make the decision to stay calm.

It seems basic, but the intention is everything. First of all, you need to make a clear decision about what you want to create in your life. To find your center, as Yogananda puts it, “Be very calm no matter what happens.” Don’t worry, the “what’s going to happen” section is a work in progress for everyone, in fact, many things still make me feel restless (you know, screaming at 4am, a virus that deletes all your e-mails …), but I still see progress. And the important thing is to commit to that goal. Right now, decide to stay as calm as possible. You can also use the phrase “be at peace” as a mantra that you can say during the day.

Stay focused and surrender.

Spiritually speaking, trust means that if you do your best right now, your life will be well-developed. The Buddha taught that the only way to “avoid the onslaught of the past and the future” is to be alert from time to time in your life, without adhering to the outcome of your actions. Life is constantly changing, but if you just show up now and feel free, you will feel free no matter what happens. In this way, trust helps you to be less attached to things that need to be done in a certain way. So stay tuned, that’s where your power is rooted.

Remember how strong you feel when you are calm and in the center.

Sometimes we walk through our day without realizing what we are feeling. Today, pay attention to your body and how it feels during the day. Maybe traffic is causing your heart to rush, or you may notice tightness in your shoulders with your boss before a Zoom call. Pay attention. You don’t have to write anything. Just keep in mind. It’s like tuning in more awareness about how certain foods make you feel after eating them. Also, realize how your body feels when you are mentally calm. We’ve all experienced this or that: you’re late for a meeting, and you’re looking around for car keys all around. You get a little more scared and go back and look at the same places again, maybe because you missed something.
