Narendra Modi’s personal Twitter account, which has more than 73 million followers, was hacked.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal Twitter account has been “very briefly compromised,” the prime minister’s office said.

A tweet that was quickly deleted from its @narendramodi main handle said that India had taken Bitcoin as a legal currency service and was distributing cryptocurrency to its citizens.

The Indian government said it had officially bought 500 Bitcoins and was “distributing them to all the people of the country” along with a fraudulent link.

The issue was uploaded to Twitter and the prime minister’s personal Twitter handle was immediately secured, Modi’s office wrote in a tweet on Saturday night.

It was not immediately known how long Modi’s personal Twitter handle with more than 73 million followers was in danger.

A spokesman for Twitter told Reuters in an email to the news agency that the company had taken all necessary measures as soon as it became aware of the activity to secure the account at risk. An investigation has not revealed any evidence of other affected accounts, the spokesman added.

Modi’s account was briefly put in jeopardy in September 2020, when hackers asked followers of some tweets to donate it to the Indian National Aid Fund via cryptocurrency.

The hackers sent fake tweets on July 15 from the accounts of Obama, Biden, Musk, and millions of tech millionaires, including Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The famous Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, were also hacked.

The tweets offered to send $ 2,000 for every $ 1,000 sent to an anonymous Bitcoin address.
