WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US Vice President Kamala Harris was on January 6, 2021, at the headquarters of the Democratic Committee in Washington, DC, when a bomb pipe was found outside, according to a White House official.
Harris, then the California vice president and senator, evacuated the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to Capitol Hill after law enforcement officers found the device, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. Secret Service, which provides security to Harris, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
For a year, the FBI has been searching for a suspect wearing a gray hood, who said he planted an explosive next to a park bank outside the DNC and another in an alley behind the Republican National Commission (RNC) headquarters. The devices, which officials believe were planted the day before, were turned off.
Their discovery was made on the same day that supporters of then-President Donald Trump attacked the Capitol in an attempt to https://www.reuters.com/world/us/biden-call-trump-threat-democracy-us-capitol-attack. -anniversary-2022-01-06 November 3, 2020 to cancel the Joe Biden and Harris elections.
Harris, Biden and other lawmakers celebrated the anniversary with speeches at the Capitol on Thursday.
