Iran has called for UN action against the United States for killing Qassem Soleiman

The request comes amid events organized by the Iranian authorities on the second anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination on January 3.

Tehran, Iran – Iran has called on the United Nations to take formal action against the United States murder two years ago his chief general.

Iran says Qassem Soleiman, the commander-in-chief of the Quds Force in the Islamic Revolutionary Revolutionary Force (IRGC), was in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on a diplomatic mission when his convoy was destroyed by missiles fired from a U.S. drone.

In a letter sent to the UN General Assembly on Saturday night, the Iranian presidential bureau’s law department called for “all the legislative initiatives at its disposal, including issuing a resolution,” to condemn the U.S. government and curb similar moves in the future.

The letter said the U.S. government had, over the years, shown “excessive unilateralism” in its actions, giving it the power to violate international law and agreements.

It comes just after the second anniversary of Misiva Soleimani’s assassination January 3.

Former US President Donald Trump, who ordered the assassination, said at the time that Soleiman was “the world’s leading terrorist” and that “he should be long gone”.

Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and many others were also killed in the attack.

The UN report on the July 2020 assassination concluded in a report that Soleimani’s assassination was “illegal” and “arbitrary” and violated the UN Charter.

Soleimani’s assassination led Iran and the United States to the brink of war.

Iranian officials are planning a series of events to celebrate the second anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination and the launch of missiles against U.S. bases.

An event is being held in the capital Tehran on Monday, and senior government and military officials are expected to attend.

President Ebrahim Raisi and other senior officials are expected to speak at the televised event.

The week-long ceremony will culminate with an exhibition of Iran’s missile capabilities on Friday.
