Leicester expert reveals your rights when it comes to e-scooters and personal injury claims
A personal injury expert from Leicester has revealed all you need to know about your rights when it comes to e-scooters and personal injury claims.
Leicestershire Police has already seized twelve of the scooters this year for illegal riding across the county.
Spelling out the law, a force spokesperson said: “Electric scooters are dangerous vehicles in the wrong hands and are currently illegal to use both on the road and in public areas in Leicestershire.”
A number of injuries have been caused by e-scooters including in July 2020 when six-year-old, Jamie suffered a fractured skull after being hit by an e-scooter rider in Leicester.
E-scooters are expected to be involved in around 200,000 accidents by the end of the year, according to research by dashcam company, Nextbase.
But just what are your rights if you are involved in an e-scooter related accident? Expert, Lisa Preece, partner and solicitor specialising in personal injury has revealed all you need to know.
Ms Preece told LeicestershireLive: “Although they provide a number of benefits, such as offering a cleaner, lower carbon alternative to motor vehicles, there’s been a continued increase in the number of personal injury claims arising since e-scooters were introduced – including several serious incidents that have resulted in catastrophic injuries and even fatalities.
