Let the ad begin, hyperbole, and general madness. It’s almost the time of the Ashes, the most anticipated cricket series in the world.
The first team of English cricketers arrived at Brisbane airport on Saturday morning to start a 14-day quarantine at a luxury Gold Coast resort and almost a month before the Ash Test against Australia.
Players and staff have to isolate themselves in their room for a hard quarantine for three days, but then they have received exceptions for training at a nearby stadium. It can also use the facilities available at the resort, including two championship golf courses and a tennis court.

The Australian players will also be in quarantine at the same station after returning from the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The rest of T20’s England players, including Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler, will also arrive when the T20 tournament ends.

“I think it’s worked out, in a friendly way, and that everyone has dealt with it as best they can in a state of evolution,” said England captain Joe Root before leaving England.
“And we’re very grateful to be able to go there under the conditions we have.”
Root, nice Ben Stokes, batsman Rory Burns and spin bowls from Jack Leach and Dom Bess were among those who arrived on Saturday for a 10-week stay Down Under. Stokes joined the England national team last month after recovering from a finger injury and taking time off to prioritize his mental health.

On the plus side, England players will have the longest time ever before a series of Ashes to adjust to the heat and humidity of south-eastern subtropical Queensland and get used to the daylight hours. Since Queensland is not in the daylight, it becomes clear from 4:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the bird chimpanzees sleep as much as possible to wake up at least an hour earlier.
No special account
Australia closed its borders until recently, when vaccination rates against COVID-19 rose to what the government considered acceptable levels, now about 80 per cent of those fully vaccinated. The English players were not given special attention when it came to making the quarantine.

England will have two teams in Australia, including a substitute for the English Lions; will play a three-day warm-up match against the English Test team from November 23-25 in the Redlands of Brisbane and a four-day match against Ian Healyn. Oval, also in Brisbane, from November 30 to December 3.
The first Test will start at Gabis in Brisbane on December 8th and the second will be played in Adelaide from December 16th to 20th. The third will be in Melbourne from 26 to 30 December, the fourth from 5 to 9 January in Sydney and the final test from 14 to 18 January in Perth.
The Perth Test is subject to further negotiations with Western Australian State officials over the current forty restrictions that may still be in place by mid-January.
Australia has the Ashes, holding on to Australia’s 2017-18 win over England and then the 2019 England Series draw.
