Two of the brightest international cricket talent, Mohammed Amir and Quinton de Kock Test cricket has been told “no” and is only 29.
Before the Twenty20 league came along, such a move – to say goodbye to Test cricket – would have been unthinkable. Cricketers would stretch all tensions to extend their test career.
A trend
It’s not about de Kock or Amir, who only had a lot more to offer in Test cricket. There are other teams that have turned their backs on Test cricket for a career in the Twenty20 league.
Take the case of all-rounder Moeen Ali, who left Test cricket. His presence would give balance to an English team in a disastrous Ashes campaign. And there are many West Indian cricketers who do not want to play test cricket, keeping their bodies in the shortest format.

Unfortunately, the cricket administrators left the game. South African batting legend Graeme Pollock once told this writer: “The success of administrators is not how much money they bring into the game, but how much they save the soul of cricket.”

The great Pollock would be disappointed with de Kock for a number of reasons. First of all, Cricket South Africa had already given him a break in the second and third tests of the Indian series when he became a father to his wife. Secondly, given the current state of transition in South Africa, with a mixed batting team with no experience, de Kock has left the team when he needs it most.

Speaking of spending time with family, wouldn’t de Kock spend two months in the Indian IPL, then travel to the Big Bash and other tournaments if he would be away from his loved ones?
