Mitchell Starc’s milestone left Australia in control of the second Ashes Test in day-night Test matches as the home side took a 282-run advantage on the third day with nine wickets in hand.
England capitulated 150-2 out of 236 in response to declaring a total of 473-9 in Australia’s first inning.
Australian captain Steve Smith decided not to follow up with a 45-1 home run on Saturday after a wicket mix by David Warner’s midfielder.
Pressure opener Marcus Harris survived both and ended a decisive period of more than 17 in the light without losing on the 21st along with Michael Neser (2).
Australia remains undefeated in the eight pink ball trials it has played, partly due to game management and partly due to skill. A large part of that day-night experience can be attributed to Starc.
No player enjoys using the pink ball as much as he does on the left, as he scored 4-37 in the first inning of Adelaide Oval. His record is now at 50 wickets – 18 ahead of the best Josh Hazlewood – at an average of 18.10 in the daytime night trials.
“We’ve got a bit of the luxury of playing eight tests and (six) being here,” Starc said. “I don’t think I’m nailed. But we all have a plan. ”

Cameron Green also had a big impact on Australia with a 2-24 lead on Saturday, claiming the key to Joe Root and ending the stand of the 138th race between the England skipper and Dawid Malan.
Green beat Root twice in the 62nd before catching his lead, while Starc caught Malan slipping six later in the 80s.
Root is the best test batsman in the world. He is only the second test captain in a calendar year to reach more than 1,600 races – 1,606 in 2021, behind South Africa’s 1,656 in Graeme Smith in 2008.
But he has never scored a century in the Australian Open in Brisbane Ashes 62 and 89 in Adelaide in England in the second inning of a loss of nine wicks in England.
Malan, who has done 80 and 82 in his last two races, said after Saturday’s game: “These are big races … hundreds of big ones that win test matches.”

“In the last test match, both me and Rooty were in a position to score hundreds of points and we didn’t make it,” Malan said. “And here we were in the same position. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there. “
After claiming Rory Burns under the clear wicket on Friday night, Starc also took out Jos Buttler in search of a duck, within a period of 4-19 18 for England.
