COVID-19 infections caused further disruptions in Wednesday’s preparations for the African National Cup, with Senegal postponing the start of the Cameroon tournament and losing to Burkina Faso in Sunday’s opening match.
The Cape Verde Islands and Tunisia also reported new positive cases of the novel coronavirus and had to cancel a second warm-up match on Côte d’Ivoire at the Saudi Arabian training base.
The host has been training all over Cameroon again after the player returned from quarantine.
Burkina Faso left three players still isolated in Abu Dhabi before arriving in Yaounde before facing Cameroon on Sunday.
Issoufou Dayok, Dramane Nikiema and Kylian Nikiema will be allowed to travel after returning negative tests and will almost certainly miss Sunday’s match, officials said.
Malawi left for Cameroon on Wednesday, but also left three players behind in isolation. Defender Mark Fodya, midfielder Charles Petro and striker Richard Mbulu were in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for re-testing on Thursday.

Senegal were due to leave Dakar on Wednesday, but the trip was delayed to try the team again, following positive cases from midfielders Pape Matar Sarr and Nampalys Mendy and strikers Mame Baba Thiam.
Victor Seh Cisse, secretary general of the Senegalese Football Federation, said the other six staff members were also positive.
The Cape Verde Islands, as in Senegal, have been at home for pre-tournament training, so coach Bubista said he was positive for COVID-19 and was isolated ahead of Thursday’s scheduled outing.
Their preparations have resulted in 21 positive tests among the players and staff, although the football federation said five players were being re-trained, three were isolated and eight others tested positive but asymptomatic.
Defender Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui and midfielder Pierre Kunde, who were isolated after being positive for COVID-19 last week, are training for Cameroon again.
Tunisia reported that Captain Youssef Msakni and striker Seifeddine Jazizi tested positive, and a friendly between Boledar and Mali in Jeddah was disrupted due to positive cases in the Bolialde camp, media reported.
