(Reuters) -Becton Dickinson and company said on Tuesday they were confident their COVID-19 tests would be able to detect a new variant of the Omicron coronavirus.
The company sells several tests for COVID-19, including antigen and PCR tests. In October, COVID-19 began shipping rapid tests in the United States, and they can confirm the results using a fully automated smartphone app.
Becton also said it performed analysis of the variant, using all available genome sequences, the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) – the world’s largest database of new coronavirus genome sequences.
The company added that it has evaluated millions of genomes so far and that there is no unidentifiable variant.
