Pakistan responded strongly and reached 145 without a loss as fastball player Hasan Ali claimed 5-51 after beating Bangladesh by 330 on the second day of the initial test on Saturday.
Opener Abid Ali and debutant Abdullah Shafique played comfortably in the second and third sessions on a good batting track to narrow the gap to 185 runs.
Abid, who set a mark of 1,000 races in his 15th test, closed out his fourth century on a motorcycle that went undefeated in 93 due to poor light. Shafique overcame a nervous start to end the day 52 not away.

Abid hit the first three boundaries as Shafique struggled to get out of the mark.
Shafique came out of the middle in favor of four Abu Jayed and grew in confidence.
Abide facilitated his approach and looked to the Mehidy Hasan spinner for a pair to reach their 84th-half goal in the third half.
Shafique brought with him his mid-century style, playing the Mominul Haque ball occasionally at most.

Bangladesh’s hopes of collecting a large number of totals were frustrated earlier by fastball player Hasan Ali.
Ali broke the resistance in Bangladesh in the first session as the home side started again with a 253-4 result.
He took only four wickets on the second day, with Bangladesh only adding 77 runs in the remaining six wickets.
Ali’s sixth fifth was well completed by new pelota teammate Shaheen Shah Afridi with 2-70 figures and a 2-54 average from Faheem Ashraf.
For Bangladesh, Liton Das scored 114 after hitting their first century and Mushfiqur Rahim added 91. Mehidy Hasan was not with 38.
Liton, who started the day with 113, added only one race before Ali was on his feet, and the referee disagreed, overturning the decision in the review.
Debutant Yasir Ali spent a few moments of nervousness in that slot and survived ahead of Pakistan’s leg-kick.
However, he was out of the mark in the international clash with a four-pointer who faced the 14th ball against Afridi.
But Ali tried it with short balls and eventually hit him with a stalk, with a sharp delivery.

Bangladesh relied on a night without a win for Mushfiqur to move to safety and grew in confidence as he approached Afridi in search of a limit from the back spot.
The middle Ashraf moved the ball well to get an edge out of it, while Mushfiqur, who revised the decision in vain, was missing nine knots by the eighth century.
After losing three wickets for just 23 runs, the necessary resistance came at the hands of Mehidy Hasan, who drove the lower order inside the short ball of Afridi and Ali.
Hasan Ali wiped his tail to end the inning.
