Eddie Kingston: We’re celebrating men like Jon Moxley who can accept their mistakes and work with them

Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley come from an environment and industry that tells men to bury their feelings. But as the rules of society slowly change, so do the expectations of “tough” boys.

All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan announced that he would take a break from the Moxley Company on November 2 and be included in an alcohol treatment program. Kingston explained his substance and mental health problems in detail Player Tribune, Spoke to CBS Sports about the industry’s support for Moxley.

“It was awesome. I’d agree with him anyway. I think you can tell I’m an old-school street boy,” Kingston said. “My thing was, ‘I don’t care if anyone else understands. I get it. Your wife gets it, I get it. That’s what matters.” It’s nice to have everyone else get it. My girlfriend told me this the other day. He is intelligent. Toxic masculinity. I had never heard of such a thing. He seems to be dying because we are celebrating men like Moxley. who can accept his mistakes, but also work.

“Once upon a time, we would accept mistakes and move on and not practice. Now that we accept who we are, we work. He says I do the same thing. I don’t know what that means. I still like to watch football and eat steak and beer. to take one here or there. ‘

Mental health issues do not discriminate; however, and Kingston stressed the importance of normalizing mental health struggles, as being a “tough guy” doesn’t stop someone from needing help.

“I like to tell people that we usually create our normal. If you sit there and tell them what you’re going through is not normal, they’re bulls —” he said. “What you’re going through is what you’re going through. That’s your normal thing. We’re doing our own thing. All this, ‘Don’t talk about things. I have to be a man.’ I’m trying to make my mother proud.I’m trying to make my girl proud.I’m proud of Tony Khan.I’m trying to make my boy a Monkey [AEW wrestler Ortiz] proud. Murder. There are so many people out there that I try to be proud of.

“The best way to move forward is to talk about what’s going on. And to do my normalcy, because no one is going through it. I’m going through it, so it’s normal for me. I’m broken. the only way forward is because I’ve been feeling a bit of pressure ever since Player Tribune? Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either. I’m not the best person mentally but I’m moving forward, I’m trying. So why can’t anyone else? “

Kingston, 39, has quite a support system at home. It was his mother who suggested that he would be happier to accept AEW’s contract offer than to sign with the WWE. It was his brother Kingston who pushed him out of the retirement lane just before his national breakthrough.

“My mom and dad are happy because I’m doing something illegal. My brother is happy because I found something I’m passionate about,” Kingston said. “I didn’t see the future. They did. They saw the future in anything I wanted to do for myself. But because of my low self-esteem and how I mentally beat myself up in the past, I still have something to do. I’m working on it, but all these things – happy they’re there to see me do something positive.

Kingston is receiving an award for his long-working career. Cody Rhodes’s one-night deal in July 2020 has turned into a full-time contract since he has played significant matches against many of AEW’s top stars. After a good reception from games against men like Moxley, CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, Kingston has become one of the company’s focal points.

“New milestones, of course,” Kingston said of the next. “[The goal] To be the main boy in the AEW. I reached a goal. I went to AEW, hired, to make a living. My nephew can show people the TNT app, there’s a plug, or there’s another plug on AEW YouTube, it shows that his uncle is a fighter. I reached a goal. The next goal is to be a high school boy. To be a champion. To be the type of poster. That’s a boy yes AEW. That’s Kenny [Omega] was. That was Mox. That was it [Chris] It was Jericho. And that’s ‘Hangman’ [Adam Page] is now. That’s always the goal. “
