Perth seeks Adelaide exchange to save Ashes Test

The Western Australian Sports Minister has proposed changing the dates for the Perth and Adelaide Ashes Trials in a last-ditch attempt to keep one of the series against England in his state.

Cricket Australia will announce in the next few days that the fifth test scheduled for January 14-18 at Perth Stadium will be moved to another city due to the hard line of the Western Australian quarantine.

Western Australia has largely managed to maintain its strict control over the COVID-19 border and is currently banning travelers from New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia from entering the state without enduring a 14-day quarantine.

The fourth round is scheduled to end in Sydney’s New South Wales capital on 9 January, leaving enough time for players to complete their isolation.

Those traveling from Queensland to Western Australia, where the first test takes place on Wednesday, are allowed to enter without quarantine, and Sports Minister Tony Buti has suggested that players go straight from Brisbane to Perth.

“If the cricket for the fifth test in Perth can’t meet our border rules, they should take the second test to Perth,” Butik told The West Australian.

“It doesn’t matter. As long as Queensland is left without COVID, teams can fly before the day-night pink ball test, which begins on December 16th.

“The simplest solution would be to bring this test here while South Australia is managing the COVID outbreak. Then Adelaide could initially conduct the fifth scheduled test in Perth.”

Buty’s plans do not take into account the thousands of tickets already sold for the Adelaide Oval Test from December 16 to 20, and the fifth Test is likely to be removed from Perth.

Hobart, which was scheduled to hold a test against Afghanistan in November before being postponed due to the Taliban’s takeover of the country, is a favorite to take on hospitality rights.

Officials in Sydney and Melbourne have also stated that they will be ready to hold a second test.
