Police are looking for a motive after the driver walked through the Wisconsin Christmas parade, Reuters reported

WAUKESHA, Wis. (Reuters) – Authorities on Monday were investigating what led to a suspicious speeding truck driving dozens of people into a Wisconsin Christmas parade, killing five, reports that emerged perhaps earlier to flee the crime scene.

On Sunday, Waukesha police chief Dan Thompson told reporters that a person had been arrested and that they had found a red useful sport that had been seen hitting pedestrians. The FBI is assisting local police in the investigation.

Several media outlets, citing law enforcement sources, identified the person arrested as Darrell Brooks, 39. Reuters could not immediately confirm the identity of the suspect.

A search of online court records opened a recent case involving a person named Darrell Brooks, who will be 39 years old with a date of birth. According to court documents, he is accused of restricting or obstructing an official, jumping on bail and battery. Records show they were placed on a $ 1,000 cash bond earlier this month.

A statement from the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office was released on Monday specifying the charges against Brooks and said it was conducting an internal review of the decision involving the Brook bailout recommendation.

“The state bond in this case was inappropriately recommended in the light of recent charges and charges against Mr. Brooks in light of the nature of the charges,” read the statement, which did not refer to the parade incident.

‘Still completely amazed’

A video posted on the net on Sunday showed a red sports utility vehicle on the side and as it entered the parade, which seemed to exceed more than a dozen people before the crowds went to help from the sidewalks.

An agent fired shots at the vehicle in an attempt to stop the massacre, Thompson said. Another video appeared on social media showing police firing at the vehicle as it collided with street fences. Police did not believe the vehicle was shot, Thompson added, contrary to previous reports.

“It was awesome,” said 33-year-old Brian Hoffman, a Waukesha resident, as the vehicle entered the parade.

“I saw the kids running,” Hoffman said, still sitting in a hole next to the scene where police were blocked. “I’m still totally impressed.”

Officials at the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital said in a speech that 18 children had been treated, including six in critical condition and three in serious condition on Monday. The rest were in good condition or released. The hospital did not mention any dead.

Among the victims were members of the “Dancing Grannies” group, according to a note posted on Facebook (NASDAQ 🙂 on Monday.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said President Joe Biden had been informed of the “tragic situation” and that federal officials were offering support.

In 2015, four people were killed and 46 injured in Stillwater, Oklahoma, when a woman entered a crowd watching a football team’s home parade.
