This year’s MIT Tech Reunions has brought together more than 5,000 alumni and friends, online from June 4-6. There were special events for the annual reunion classes, and the entire MIT community was invited to watch the Tech Night at Pops online, learn with teachers on Technology Day, and take virtual campus tours.
Symphony Hall at home
With the 123rd Tech Night at Pops almost celebrated, there was no limit to the number of alumni and guests who could attend, and everyone got a seat in the front row. Directed in an empty Symphony Hall by Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops Orchestra performed a tailor-made program for this purpose, such as the Institute’s favorites “Arise All Ye of MIT” and the 1971 reunion of the 1971 Class with the tunes of the Three. Dog Night and Carole King. The evening also featured classical pieces, such as Rachmaninoff’s first piano concerto movement – soloist William Wang, an MIT doctoral student and music student at the Emerson Program at the MIT Conservatory, in his first performance with a professional orchestra. In keeping with tradition, the show ended with a “Stars and Stripes Forever” and a (virtual) balloon drop. During the performance, alumni and guests sparked a conversation with greetings and memories from around the world:
