Rwandan Referee Salima Mukansanga will lead the women’s full squad on Tuesday in the African Cup of Nations match between Guinea and Zimbabwe, the African Football Confederation (CAF) has announced.

It will be the first time that only women will play in the iconic international tournament in Africa.

Mukansanga will be in charge along with assistants Carine Atemzabong from Cameroon and Fatiha Jermoumi from Morocco. The Assistant Video Referee will be another Moroccan, Bouchra Karboubi. Mukansanga was the fourth officer in the January 10 clash between Guinea and Malawi.

“He (Mukansanga) has had to overcome major obstacles to reach that level and he has great merit,” CAF chief referee Eddy Maillet said in a statement.

“This moment is not just for Salima, but for all the young African girls who have a passion for football and see themselves as judges in the future.”
