WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. government put a dozen Chinese companies on the trade blacklist on Wednesday for concerns about national security and foreign policy, citing in some cases support for the Chinese military’s efforts to quantify computing.
The department said several Chinese and Pakistani entities and individuals were added to the Trade Department’s List of Entities for supporting Pakistan’s nuclear activities or ballistic missile program.

Suppliers of listed companies will need to apply for a license before selling, and they may be denied this.
Separately, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology was added to the list of final military users of the Department of Commerce, but the list did not provide additional information than the one that produced military products.
The list of entities has been increasingly used for national security and foreign policy purposes since the Trump administration. Chinese telecommunications company Huawei was added in 2019, cutting it off from some major suppliers and making it difficult to produce mobile phones.
