Root sacrifices the opportunity to enter the IPL auction to help England

In an effort to boost the fortunes of the England Test team, Joe Root has sacrificed the opportunity to enter the IPL mega auction.

Considered one of the great moderns in England, Root has yet to play in the IPL after being sold out at the 2018 auction. Last week, Root said he was considering joining the mega auction, but added that he would play in the tournament unless he moved away from his test career.

However, the wait to join the IPL was further increased as it decided to give priority to the England Test team.

“We have a lot to do for this team, which is worth all my energy,” Root said in a post-match speech after his team lost 146 races against Australia in Sunday’s fifth test.

“I will continue to sacrifice as much as I can because I care a lot about the Test Cricket in our country and try to get it where we want it,” Root added, confirming that he has ruled out the possibility of entering the auction.

England’s poor performance in the test rally this past year has raised questions about his leadership, but Root has expressed a desire to continue as England’s red ball captain. “It’s very difficult for people to believe that I’m the right man when they hit you hard on this tour. But I can say one thing for sure – as long as I have the chance to be the captain of this team, I will throw everything and give everything – to all those who help us, the guys around me, the players, to provide an environment where we can try and succeed, ”said Root.

IPL has expanded to 10 teams starting this year and the mega-auction for next season will be held on February 12th and 13th in Bengaluru.
