Mikey Garcia made his way to the ring Saturday night in Fresno, California, as he was walking in a four-bed trailer around the arena with fireworks. Unfortunately for Garcia, he was unable to create fireworks in the ring, and Sandor Martin did not leave the decision to him in a grief that ranks among the greatest of recent memories.
Garcia’s footwork was slow as Martin did well in the pre-fight words that he would remove Garcia’s normally effective attack. Martin slipped from the outside of the ring, giving quick punches, repeatedly connecting with a hard left side in between.
By the end of the 10-round fight, Garcia seemed hesitant to move forward, worrying about the Spaniards ’speed and clean fist when the excitement of the Fresno crowd was exhausted.

Martin was the coolest fighter in the final whistle, even though he won one of the real wild shots made during the ropes in the final seconds of the fight.
Boxing judges often give out score cards that do not match what all other observers have observed, giving them tension in their overall reading. In the end, 95-95 and 97-93 read the scores twice, giving Martini the victory of the majority decision.
“I know myself and I know my abilities,” Martin said after the victory. “I’ve been doing it since I was five years old. I said I’d come out and win the best in the world and that’s what I’ve done.”
Martin entered the fight below +1200, which means he paid $ 1,200 for a $ 100 bet.
With the exception of all of Martin’s fights, they took place in his hometown of Spain, and it was his first trip to North America on Saturday. He is now in a 10-game winning streak.
“I thought it was a good fight,” Garcia said after losing. “He had a really good fight with his boxing. I thought I was doing what was necessary to narrow the gap … I was looking for the fight and I thought I was ahead of the cards.”
Garcia suffered only the second loss of his professional career, losing to Errol Spence Jr. in 2019.
