The 96-year-old former leader has been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur for the past few days.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad she is in stable condition after being admitted to a specialist heart hospital for the third time in just a few weeks, according to her daughter.

The 96-year-old has been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur for the past two days, Marina Mahathir said.

The media went down to the hospital on Saturday when news broke that Mahathir had been re-admitted, and current Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob also paid him a visit.

In a statement, her daughter said she was receiving follow-up treatment about two weeks ago after a procedure at the same facility.

“Her condition is now stable and she has responded well to treatment,” he said.

His family “demands that people pray for him to be completely healed,” he added.

Mahathir also spent several days in December undergoing an examination at the hospital.

He has had many heart problems over the years, has suffered several heart attacks and has undergone bypass surgery.

Mahathir is one of the leading political figures in Malaysia, who has been Prime Minister twice for a total of 24 years.

He was the leader from 1981 to 2003, then returned to power in 2018 at the age of 92, leading a reformist coalition in the wake of the widespread 1MDB corruption scandal.

But that administration collapsed in 2020 because of internal struggles.
