Two were killed in Saudi Arabia and three were killed in a coalition airstrike in Ajama, Yemen.

Three people have been killed in an airstrike by a coalition led by Riyadh in Yemen, and two in Saudi Arabia in a bombing raid on Yemeni Houthi rebels.

Since 2014, Yemen has been in turmoil Civil War Iran-backed Houthi rebels oppose an internationally recognized government, backed by a Saudi-led military coalition.

Saudi Arabia’s civil defense said on Saturday that two people, a Saudi and a Yemeni, had been killed and seven others injured in an attack in Jazan, a southern region of the Yemeni border region.

“A military projectile crashed into a shopping street on the main street, killing two people,” he said in a statement, adding that seven others were injured.

In Yemen, doctors say three people have been killed and six others injured in coalition airstrikes in Ajama, a rebel-held town in the rebel-held capital of Sanaa.

“Three civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed and six others were injured,” doctors told AFP.

The deadly cross-border attacks mark the escalation of the Yemeni civil war.

Saudi-led military coalition airstrikes hit Sanaa on Friday and hit a military camp near the city center, Saudi media reported.

Houthi media reported that the attacks hit a populated neighborhood and damaged homes.

Military climbing

The Yemeni war broke out in 2014 when the Houthis took over Sanaa and much of the northern part of the country.

A month later, a US-backed Saudi-backed coalition intervened to overthrow the Houthis and restore an internationally recognized government.

The war has come to a standstill and has caused the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world.

Throughout the conflict, Houthis have increasingly attacked drone strikes and fired missiles across borders at airports, oil facilities and military facilities in the kingdom.

Within Yemen, the coalition’s bombing campaign has been criticized internationally for targeting non-military targets such as hospitals and wedding parties in the poorest nation in the Arab world.

Yemen’s civil war has killed about 130,000 people, including thousands of civilians.
