Sri Lanka limits West India to 113-6 on Day 2

Sri Lankan spinners Ramesh Mendis and Praveen Jayawickrama shared five wickets to let the West Indies fight 113-6, answering 386 of the home team’s first inning on the second day of Monday’s first test.

Mendis off-spinner eliminated Kraigg Brathwaite (41), Shai Hope (10) and Roston Chase (2) to end the day with 3-23 figures. Jayawickrama received 2-25, while walker Lasith Embuldeniya claimed to drop another wick.

Kyle Mayers was 22 years old in the tight end, teaming up with Jason Holder (1).

Earlier, the West Indies did well in Sri Lanka’s last seven wickets to make 119 runs, after the hosts laid a solid foundation for a good score when they started for 267 threes.

Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who reached his 13th test drive on Sunday, was impressed by spinner Joshua Da Silva Chase with 147 15-yard touchdowns in 300 ball innings.

Dhananjaya de Silva also made 61 before hitting his wick.

Chase took 5-83, his fourth test in five innings, and left-hander Jomel Warrican claimed 3-87.

West Indies batsman Jeremy Solozano, playing his first test, was left out of the rest of the game on Sunday after receiving a blow to the helmet on his short leg on Sunday.

Hope came in to replace him.
