Telenor has signaled its departure from Myanmar as the UN urges Europe News to take urgent action

The mobile phone company has said it is selling its business as a result of a military coup that calls on UN officials to take more action against the generals.

Telenor, a Norwegian telecommunications company, has said it has reached an agreement to sell its Myanmar mobile phone business to the M1 Group, leaving a country plunged into chaos on February 1 after the military took power in a coup.

The operator will sell all its operations to the M1 company, led by Lebanon’s richest man and former prime minister, for $ 105 million.

“The situation in Myanmar has become increasingly difficult for Telenor in recent months for reasons of safety, rules and compliance with people,” Sigve Brekke, president and CEO of the Telenor Group, said in a statement. “We have evaluated all the options and believe that the company’s sales are the best solution in this situation.”
