French teachers go on strike over “chaotic” COVID policies – Live | Coronavirus pandemic News

The WHO says 15 million people tested positive for COVID-19 last week, the highest number of reported cases within seven days.

The world record for COVID-19 cases reached a record high last week, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), when 15 million people tested positive for coronavirus in seven days.

The figure represents a 55 percent increase over the previous seven days, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday, adding that the “big tip” was driven by the Omicron variant.

Although highly infectious strains cause more serious diseases than Delta variants, Tedros says Omicron remains a “dangerous virus,” especially for those who are not vaccinated.

A comment from the WHO leader announced that Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hokestra had tested positive for COVID-19 and that French teachers had launched a strike over the government’s “chaotic” virus strategy for schools.

Here are the latest updates:

The Australian Open crowd was limited to 50 per cent

Authorities say the Australian Open crowd will limit capacity by 50 per cent as COVID-19 cases and hospital admissions continue to rise in Melbourne.

Jaala Pulford, Victoria’s state tourism minister, said in a statement that face masks will also be mandatory at the annual Grand Slam, which starts on Monday.

Spectators will have to socially distance themselves while inside the house, he added.

French teachers say COVID’s strike is a “chaotic” strategy

French teachers have to quit their jobs because they say the government has not adopted a coherent school policy for managing the COVID-19 pandemic, or that students and staff are adequately protected from infection.

“The fatigue and anguish of the entire education community has reached an unprecedented level,” eleven unions said in a joint statement.

“In this chaotic situation, the responsibility of the minister and the government is overwhelming, due to the lack of proper tools to ensure that constant foot changes, inaccessible protocols and (schools) can function properly.”

Strike teachers, parents and school administrators are struggling to keep up with the new test rules, which were announced before the end of the Christmas holidays, but changed twice after criticism.

Unions said many schools were closed on Thursday and that a very large number of teachers – including about 75 per cent of primary schools – were expected to join the one-day strike.

The Dutch Foreign Minister has COVID-19

Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra has said he has been positive for COVID-19 and will be in quarantine for the next few days.

He made the announcement on Twitter.

Hoekstra, who was sworn in only on Monday, was in Brussels on Tuesday, where he met with EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrel and Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Wilmes.
