The IAEA Director-General examines the final round of Iran’s nuclear talks.

Iran, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and China have resumed talks in Vienna with a view to reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. The US is indirectly involved in the 2018 deal after the deal.

But there is another important aspect to the ongoing diplomatic efforts: the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The nuclear watchdog has maintained open communication and dialogue with all parties involved. But as disagreements and tensions over key issues remain unresolved, what would it take for a successful dialogue? And if negotiations fail, what’s next?

Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, spoke to Al Jazeera.
