The Palestinian Ministry of Health says the man, identified as Amir Atef Reyan from Qarawet Bani Hassan, died of his wounds.

A Palestinian man who was running towards them with a knife at a West Bank bus stop was shot dead by the army, according to the army.

Citing an initial investigation, he said in a statement on Friday that the man had arrived in a car at a crossroads near the Jewish settlement of Ariel, got out and “armed with a knife, ran to the bus station where civilians and IDF soldiers were standing.”

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the deceased as Amir Atef Reyan. He said he died from his injuries as a resident of Qarawet Bani Hassan in Salfit, West Bank.

Members of the Palestinian Red Moon say Israeli forces prevented paramedics from approaching the young man for treatment before he was taken to hospital.

Photos and videos posted online showed the Palestinian man lying face down before being taken by ambulance to a crossroads near an Israeli settlement.

The Israeli army said it was chasing anyone else in the vehicle, fleeing the scene.

The West Bank has seen occasional violence since talks with the US-backed Israel led to the creation of a Palestinian state in 2014.

Colonist violence has intensified against Palestinians in recent weeks after a Jewish settler was shot dead in the northern West Bank.

The murder sparked a the chain of attacks of the settlers which left at least four Palestinians wounded and sparked a series of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.

Israel took over the West Bank in 1967, which the Palestinians want to be a major part of the future state. About 600,000 Jewish settlers they live in more than 130 settlements scattered throughout the occupied territory, home to more than 2.5 million Palestinians.

The Palestinians and the growing international community see the growing Israeli colonies as a violation of international law that threatens the two states to resolve the conflict.
