The US-Ireland cricket series is coming to an end due to concerns about COVID-19

Part of the One-Day International white-ball cricket series between the United States and Ireland was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

Two members of the Irish team have been positive, as have several pairs of players, and as a result the two Irish players have been described as having a close relationship. All players reported negative test results in the final controls of the night.

The first match of the three-game series had already been canceled, and the second ODI was delayed by a day after the COVID-19 cases were detected by the refereeing team and U.S. teammates. The second and third games were scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

In a joint statement, USA Cricket and Cricket Ireland said: “The risks and concerns of further expansion mean that both Committees have unfortunately agreed to cancel the remaining two scheduled matches.” The teams split the Twenty20 series 1-1.

The Irish team will travel from Florida to Kingston, Jamaica, on Friday for a series against the West Indies.
