The long-running conflict sparked clashes that left at least one woman, three children and a police officer dead.
Guatemalan authorities say 12 people have been killed in the town of Chiquix, 155 km (96 miles) east of the capital, where a long-running land dispute has sparked clashes between residents of the two municipalities.
Among the victims are women and three children, authorities said on Saturday.
A policeman was also killed in an armed clash and two others were injured.
The Guatemalan National Police said in a statement that leaders of both communities were involved in efforts to prevent future violence.
The Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman also recommended strengthening the police presence in the area.
A land dispute over 100 years has pitted residents of the municipalities of Nahualá and Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán against each other.
