Ten thousand people in Brazil staged another day of protest against President Jair Bolsonaro, mainly for his chaotic anti-pandemic behavior that has killed more than 461,000 people in the country.

In downtown Rio de Janeiro, about 10,000 people marched through the streets wearing masks shouting “Bolsonaro genocide” and “Go away Bolsovirus”.

Similar rallies were held in other major cities, the last of the waves of anger against Bolsonaro that began a month ago. After the United States, Brazil has the second highest number of coronavirus deaths in the world.

In the early days of the pandemic, the far-right president dismissed COVID-19 as “a little bit of the flu” and, as the number of deaths continued to rise, people became angry in other ways, against measures and masks to stay home. , denounced effective medications, denied vaccine offers, and failed to anticipate oxygen shortages that left patients drowning.

One of the topics of Saturday’s rallies was how many lives could have been saved if the Bolsonaro government had started the vaccination force in Brazil earlier. The effort goes slowly and he often throws up due to lack of supply.

“We need to stop this government. “It’s enough, we have to say,” businessman Omar Silveira told AFP news agency at the Rio rally.

About Bolsonaro, he added, “He’s a killer, a psychopath. He has no feelings. He doesn’t feel like us. He can’t feel the catastrophe he’s experiencing.”

Demonstrators also attacked Bolsonaro because they allowed the deforestation of the Amazon and the hijacking of indigenous lands and said it encourages violence and racism.
