Russia and China have called for a “model of cooperation” at the virtual summit, seen as a reaction to Western tensions.
The United States, Europe and Western allies often portray Russia and China as a threat to world peace.
Examples include the accumulation of troops across the Ukrainian border by Russia and China’s crackdown on human rights in Hong Kong and Xinjiang.
Moscow and Beijing see things differently: they accuse the West of destabilizing their countries by imposing sanctions and intervening in internal affairs.
Chinese and Russian leaders Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin reinforced that point at a virtual summit on Wednesday.
They are committed to working together in trade and security and respecting each other’s interests, taking their relationship as a model of cooperation for the 21st century.
