England’s young batsmen have been “called up” by Australia in the Ashes series and should be used to start their careers, said assistant coach Graham Thorpe.
England are trailing 3-0 in a five-game series, and one of their batsmen has failed to score a century in the fight against Australia’s fast-paced attack. But Thorp, who has won more than 6,000 races in the 100 Tests for England, said players have begun to work out solutions to their problems.

“It’s a wake-up call with some players and they can really start their careers because they’ve started training in a very different way. They don’t waste time fluffing, playing half-balls, ”Thorp told the British media.
“They’ve come up against some very good bowling attacks, they’ve got a little bit of their guard and they’ve been able to see where some of Achilles’ heels are, and they have to deal with that reality.”
Thorpe said the batsmen had to adapt to the requirements of Test cricket, which he described as “10 times harder” than home games.
“It’s county cricket, you have to get the players out of there, then train them in international cricket. When I look at batting in general, I try to teach the basics of the game, ”added Thorp.
“We’re still trying to educate some young guys … at the pace of a test, playing game situations, doing it for a long time. Some of them still couldn’t do it. Some people travel to different places. ”
Thorp will take charge of England in the fourth round in Sydney from January 5 to 9 while coach Chris Silverwood isolates himself in Melbourne after a family member tested positive for COVID-19.
