Malaysian Concert Workspace and Application for corporate ground events – Wired PR Lifestyle Story

Concert work has grown exponentially in recent times and may be attributed to job losses. That or more people are willing to work on short-term projects for more flexibility and opportunities.

Along with this, the demand for online promoters and warehouse staff increased as online shopping habits increased and new concerted works such as content creators emerged.

This is a trend that is reflected in today’s profitable gig economy platform, Cidekick, which has just launched an app this year to take full advantage of it. We spoke to Philip Phua, creator and CEO, to learn more about the motivations behind the site and the app.

Emphasizing the human side of the work

There are already quite a few economic concert platforms and applications on the market. Some examples are close Qwork and GoGet, which also provide training for specific jobs.

Philip is confident that even though it has competitors in the field, Cidekick stands out among its 300 customers (and counts) by focusing solely on the B2B market and the conservation of human capital.

To do more, Cidekick focuses on the B2B market, particularly the land-based workforce activation scale, with expertise in a variety of event needs.

In addition, part of Cidekick’s mission is to create jobs that care for human capital. What this means is that the company is not trying to include employees in jobs where automation can be phased out, such as last mile shipments.

Cidekick is looking for network promoters, video content creators, product and service promoters, and more. Philip believes that these are jobs that will be based on creativity and human connection in the coming years.

In MCOs, for example, Cidekick’s team helps its customers focus on hiring online promoters. These concertgoers can help companies create greater brand awareness through online testimonials and usage.

“Some of these [offerings] we added that it helped us hold on [the business] in hard times. Now the ground work is slowly starting again, and our Cidekicks (staff) [will be] able to play more roles, ”Philip explained.

A safer place for concerts

The point of the incident that led Philip to found Cidekick in 2016 in unsafe work environments was due to delays in payments and exploits suffered by part-time job seekers.

While working as a commercial trader, he found that there was no suitable platform for hiring and selecting staff because he could only do so through agencies. In addition, there was a large pay gap between what the agencies charged and what the staff took home. With Cidekick, employees can generally expect to earn between RM100 and RM150 a day.

Another impetus for Philip to launch Cidekick was to learn about unethical practices in some agencies that promote something called “in the workplace”.

“It’s a term used to disguise an arrangement of a concert work (usually labeled as a party girl or usherettes), where there is an additional chance of paid sex after clients have completed their main task.”

Philip reflected that he did not want his children to be so prepared if they decided to take up concert work as a student in the future.

That’s why Cidekick was created to address the following pain points:

  • Employers find temporary work on a support scale;
  • Improve transparency and performance in procurement;
  • Create a safe environment for concert staff.

The only application to do everything

Prior to launching its app in November 2021, Cidekick’s job matching was done through its web platform. At the time, the main function of the platform was to match Cidekicks and customers while making payments.

With the app, the team hopes to increase the accountability and transparency of Cidekicks and employers ’hiring processes and work environments.

Cidekicks can enter and exit all jobs using the location stamp, taking a live photo of the work site, or answering questions that customers may have. Cidekicks can also respond to ad hoc customer requests through the app.

“Also [Cidekicks] they are not comfortable during a job, we can accept [them] they will give us a warning to report and investigate an issue by changing the scope of work, date, time, salary, etc., ”Philip said.

At the same time, employers will be able to monitor the performance of their work, as the application-owned panel will allow them to follow a variety of concert workers, individually or in groups. Employers will also have access to personalized sales and reports.

For example, these reports can provide employers with information on how many product samples they were given by an employee or the sales figures they earned during work. These will allow employers to assess which interpreters are Cidekicks and which are not.

Equipped with this data may help Cidekick customers to analyze and add the median for future sales, marketing and operating roles.

Working with the state government

To date, Cidekick has gained 15,000 active users, with a 100% increase in the last 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite low procurement costs.

“A lot of users in recent times are former Grab drivers and workers in the hospitality and retail industries, which have been severely damaged economically,” Philip said.

“Aware of this, we have enhanced our collaboration with the Rangan Digital Selangor project of the Selangor state government driven by our platform and the work it successfully offers with the opportunity to work from home.”

Other clients include Grab, Foodpanda, Touch ‘n Go, Fave, Caring, Signature Market, among others. Previously, Cidekick received RM 775,000 in funding from Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd.

Philip now wants to attract new investors to fund Cidekick’s expansion and growth internationally over the next 2 years, with the goal of becoming a groundbreaking platform of choice for corporate clients and concert staff.

“This would take extra work for us to create an amazing value proposition for more than one recruitment platform. In addition, we need to provide our Cidekicks with enough jobs and constantly create different and new types of jobs for the concert job market,” he said.

For now, the company is already talking about expanding its business to Indonesia next year, with plans to enter the Thai and Singapore markets.
