England player Ben Stokes has said he is “fit and hungry” to start the Ashes series against Australia.

Stokes joined the team late as he took a break from cricket to mentally refresh himself and underwent a second operation to fracture his left index finger.

England captain Joe Root has planned to take Stokes back to the squad, but it looks like everyone is ready to play in the first test which starts on December 8 in Brisbane.

“2 months ago, I couldn’t hold on to one,” Stokes wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “With a week to go before the first test, I’m fit and hungry for the big series below.”

Stokes arrived in Brisbane on 6 November ahead of Ashes, who was in the first team of English cricketers.
