France and Qatar jointly carried out a humanitarian mission to Kabul while also delivering medical equipment, food and winter supplies.
France has carried out an evacuation mission in Afghanistan, taking 258 Afghans as well as 11 French, some 60 Dutch nationals and an unspecified number of people associated with them out of the country, a French Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.
The operation was organized with the help of Qatar, according to a ministry statement.
Among those evacuated were Afghans at risk, such as journalists and people linked to France, including civilian employees employed by the French army.
As of Sept. 10, at least 110 French and 396 Afghans have been evacuated from Afghanistan on 10 scheduled flights with the help of Qatar, the statement added.
France and Qatar jointly carried out a humanitarian mission on Thursday and handed over medical equipment, food and winter supplies to international organizations working with a Qatar military aircraft in the country, a French Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) this week described the “worrying” socio-economic outlook for Afghanistan over the next 13 months.
Afghanistan is struggling with a sharp decline in international development aid since the Taliban took power in August, and the UNDP has predicted that poverty could become almost universal by mid-2022.
